Italian architect and furniture designer Gae Aulenti is best known for transforming Paris Gare d’Orsay railway station into the masterpiece Musée d’Orsay.
Aulenti worked in the post-war period of Italy, while creating pieces that spanned across a wide variety of styles and influences. She always wanted the focus of the room to be the occupants, believing that “people make the room a room”.
Aulenti sought to stand out against the dominant Modernist aesthetic and always encouraged individual expression in her designs.
